If you have configured your trap receiver correct, you should view arrived
traps in the SNMP Trap log on Whatsup.
You do not need to change mib and traps .txt files just for receive traps.
It is needful only if you want see "nice" names of traps, not number
sequences in the trap log.

And check your trap sender.
Did you set up a trap receiver (in this case whatsup)?

What I want:

Get an alert when a specific trap comes in.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------
What I have:

Test device with a trap generator installed, sending test traps every 2
minutes.

WUP monitoring station with enabled SNMP trap handler, receiving SNMP
traps (seen in the log file of WUP).
I edited the mib.txt and the trap.txt by hand, added the lines:

Trap.txt:

testtrap,qmail,100,1000

Mib.txt:

qmail,1.3.6.1.7.9999

restarted WUP.

No alerts.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------
My questions:

Can somebody explain me the minor and major type codes? I read the KB
article WG-20020305-DM01 but I still don't understand it.
When does the notification alert me? In the second when the trap comes
in or when the device is polled?
Is it right that I type "testtrap" in the "On SNMP trap" field in the
"Edit Notification" menu?

Regards

Greg
