Although device icons are more cosmetic in nature than functional, you would think
after several versions IPSwitch could get someone to create a new set of icons for
standard things as firewalls, routers, switches, SQL cluster, Exchange cluster, web
server, vpn appliance, Unix server, Linux Server, etc.

These device types have not changed much since version 3.x and the Vector Device
editor tool used to modify or create them leave a lot to be desired, that is why we
have to resort to using Visio or other 3rd party tools (picture 2 icon/bitmap
converters). Others have gone as far as posting new custom icons on the WUG portal to
share with us. This is great, but ...

Come on IPSwitch, I know you have developers that probably have in their spare time or
are willing to knock down some of the low hanging fruit.

Perhaps this is not a high priority for them like Instant Messaging, but I for one
would be willing to pay a little bit more for this in the next version (9).

Are you listening to your customers?

Add this to the wish list pile.

Thanks.

Visio works good. I used it to convert over a bunch of Cisco icons. You
can do whatever you want and then "save as" in .emf format. The only
catch is that if the artwork is not square then WhatsUp will distort the
aspect ratio to make it square, which won't look too good in most cases.
But it's real easy to get around this by just enclosing everything inside
an invisible square box before you save it. I'm attaching the Cisco icons
for whoever might like them. And Cisco has the full original set on their
web site too.

If you don't have Visio, there is a free program called EVE
<http://www.goosee.com/index.shtml> that might work, and if you're looking
for just a plain viewer, try here:
<http://www.siliconwold.com/emfview/index.htm?sl> Anything that can work
with .emf files should be good.

Hope that helps,

Anyone written or know about a good tool for creating icons for WUG? I
have found the vector editing tool severely lacking. Anyone had any luck
maybe using Fireworks or PS?

Thanks!
