Both interesting possibilities...

Thanks for your help Duncan & Brandon.

We bought some $50 Netgear broadband routers (one per DHCP server), and had the DHCP servers (5) assign a specific IP address by MAC address with a 5-minute lease. Then we poll the IP address. Works great.

Yves,

The best way that I have seen is to add an additional NIC to a server, could be your wug server.  Set a static DHCP mapping in your DHCP server utilizing the MAC of the new NIC.

Set the lease time to minutes on that static DHCP lease and then monitor the IP address through wug.  If the lease expires and the renew fails, the server will no longer respond on that IP.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] DHCP monitoring ?

Hello,

I would like to monitor a DHCP server (simulate a DHCP request and wait for the DHCP Ack) and I suppose the best way to do this is to use the "monitor TCP/IP service"...

Is there someone on the mailing-list who had implemented such a kind of monitoring ?

Best regards,
Yves Beckers.
