Yet another comment on dependencies ... We've recently started usning dependencies, along with rebuilding and redrawing all our maps.
We have a single "overview" map and container files inside container files inside container files .... Each map has its own set of dependencies, eg: router <- switch <- servers. I use UP dependencies, only. The servers don't show as DOWN if the router is unavailable. Yes, this takes a bit of fiddling to get right, but works well eventually. Ultimately, everything depends on the core router anyway, so this reflects the real situation. We've not been bothered by the 'false DOWN' syndrome. A greater problem is, um, "user error" in misinterpreting what a missed PING really means ... What is the basic value you gain from this feature? (don't worry it's not going away) We already know that there is a desire to be able to create dependencies that span maps (although feel free to discuss further). And we already know that it is a challenge to resolve invalid dependencies through manipulating poll order. Those things aside - how are you using them? - what's your polling dependency story? Feel free to respond to the list if you would like others to view and comment or feel free to just respond directly to me.
