This is the way it works for me. It takes sometimes up to four polls
before the cascading effect works to show what ever "down" states were
shown in the lower maps, but at least I don't get the repeated pages for
a device that was down already and I was aware of it. I also dislike the
loading and unloading of the maps if you edit them off-line and then
copy them back over as it always adds the map as the top device if you
elect to use the suggestion to do this. I find it's usually not that big
a deal to stop the service and start the WUG program to make extensive
changes in lay-out and scans, and then save all maps before shutting the
program back down and restarting the service. If installed on a WIN2K or
XP system, you can even use the Terminal Services to access the console
portion of the program remotely and make any changes that way... It's
not the optimal way of doing it I'm sure, but it does work. ;)

Does this work for anyone? Even though I have it checked to
Remember
the last state, everything still comes up green when I reload.
Does
it only remember actual devices and NOT containers?

Thanks,

Response number 2 is partially correct, in that you can choose to have
What's Up remember the last state upon restart.... You will configure
this from the console.

1. The web page will be unavailable during the time between when you
stop the service and when the app reinitializes and starts the web
server again. And again when you shut down the console and restart the
service.

2. All of your statuses get reset, so everything will be green when
the
app fist starts and then will go through the stages of down-ness all
over again. And again when you restart the service. Also means that
you
get any alerts each time.

3. If you are doing any monitoring of servers in workgroups or other
domains, you either have to log in with the account that the WUG
service
uses to make your changes, or get alerts and false downs from any
servers that you don't have admin privileges on.

4. Ultimately, it's a bigger pain in the patoot than configuring your
web accounts properly.

Thanks for the replies to my previous question, I am new to the
product
and
really appreciate the feedback from those who have been using the
product; I
find it much more useful then the User's guide (Which is not the best
written, I've seen) or from online FAQ's. However, I will try not to
abuse
this forum, too much.

My question today is: I am looking over the option to run WUG as a
service,
I read that if it is run as as service, any configuration changes must
be
done via the Web Client. I don't want to set up the security to let
some
people configure maps via the web, and others only to view it. So
what
is
to stop me from taking WUG out of Service Mode, when I need to edit a
Map
and then returning it to service mode when I am done?

Thanks!
