Hi,
I just posted a reply to the online forum post.

The current design does not have the feature to scale down the poll interval
after a missed poll. Alerts are based on whole missed polls (or
'triggers').

Since your poll interval is so great, I would suggest sending a recurring
report notification every 15 minutes or so, that would report on Downs.
That would end being 4 reports per hour. So it might not be practical.

Or another option for the web sites: you can add a second icon that will be
monitored more frequently, and make it Down Dependant on the main device
icon. Add the alert to the second icon. When the first poll misses on the
main device, then the second device will pick up monitoring.
However you would want to switch to the Poll Frequency on the map to 30
second or 60 seconds.
On the Main icon, go to Properties | Monitor and set the Poll Frequency to
20 (Check every n polls). If the Map's Poll Frequency is 60 seconds, then
the Main icon will be checked every 20 minutes. Once WUG detects that it
returned a down, then the second device will pick up monitoring on a 30 or
60 second interval until it reaches its Poll Trigger.

You would have to set the Main device's Polling Method to Services Only,
with just the website service being monitored.
Otherwise the device will not be considered down, only the service will be
down, and it will not trigger a dependency.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] WUG Polling Question

I haven't received a response to this yet so I thought I would ask
everybody here.

http://www.ipswitch.com/forums/shwmessage.aspx?ForumID=5&MessageID=2095

Other products that I have looked at in the past had the option of
rechecking a site a minute after a failed poll. For example, if you are
monitoring websites every 20 minutes and it misses one poll, it would
recheck the site every 30 seconds until it responded and sends out an
alert after the 3rd or 4th poll.

With WUG, the only option that I know of is to wait for the full polling
period to pass, so the site would have to be down for 80 minutes if 4
was the trigger and it polled every 20 minutes.

Is this something that is coming in the new version or is it already
there in 8.x but I haven't seen it...
