When I try to connect to
the SQL Server from a remote desktop, I always get an error. �It says “Login
failed for user “xx”.� Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL
Server connection.
I tried what you just
said but I haven’t been able to create a local DSN.
If someone could help me
it would be very appreciate.

You can enable remote access to the MSDE database by running
<drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\SVRNETCN.exe
This runs a configuration program for MSDE and then you can enable
TCP/IP access to the database and create a DSN locally on you client PC to
access the database.

You can share the directory where the database is stored and then
access the Database from a workstation. Depending on your version of
access, you will have to make WUG a trusted site on your workstation within IE.

My understanding was that the desktop version that WUP runs does
not allow network connections. If it does then you are correct I can use

What other options are out there to connect to the database except
purchasing and installing MS Access onto one of my servers? I have
found a few products that will let me view the database without a
large
program. However I have not found one that will let me edit.

Most of that information is in the table called Device in the
database.
It might be best for you to create a blank MS Access database and
then link the Whats Up database to that via a DSN. Then you
can use
the Device table just like a Access database and easily make queries
against it.
I would caution not to change anything unless you absolutely know what
it is. I noticed the Device Type is a number in the database
so you
need to find the corresponding number.
I was able to quickly create a query and change over 500 SMNP
communities this way in about 1 minute (the time it took to write the
query).
I think will some experience with the database, the multiple select
issue becomes very minor. (IMO)

I just spoke with support and they have identified this as something
they are working on, hopefully for SP1. I still need to modify the
properties of several devices at once, i.e. SNMP communities, device
types, actions, dependencies.
If there is anyone who knows the database way of doing this, then
please let me know. I am not a DBA and really only work with
databases
in a limited way. Please let me know how to do this.
