Randy,

Actually that is what I did, although the account already existed (it
was the same as it was sent to). But I just changed the sender to a
non-existing account (same domain, however) and I still got the mail
and it did have the username in the client "from" field, not an email
address. So it should work either way, unless the mail server it is
destined for is doing some other email checking (say, a test to see if
the sending user exists, or if the sending domain exists).

In your case, Exchange is probably testing the sender and by creating
it, the test is passed so the mail is accepted. This is not really the
same question Mike asked, but it is important in helping to understand
how mail server work so WUG/P can deliver its notifications. And this
is a common way to make the mail server accept WUG/P email messages.

Marcio is using the IP in the senders address and probably has his
server set to allow sending of mail for a range of IPs in his domain.

I had the same problem and the only fix for me was to create an
exchange e-mail user named Whatsup .......... I was getting 501
Syntax Error prior to this.

Mike,

Try a space after the last " and before the < (just like it shows in
the From: header below). I used that format and it worked just fine
from WUP and at my mail client.
