I am monitoring a Proxim Quick Bridge radio via SNMP. One of the OIDs
that I would like to monitor is for packet loss, which in this instance
is Ethernet packet loss over the RF. The MIB states the following for
this OID.
--******************************************************
--* Status Packet Loss Rate
--******************************************************
statPktLossRate OBJECT-TYPE
SYNTAX DisplayString
ACCESS read-only
STATUS mandatory
DESCRIPTION
"This non-persistent read-only variable contains the
Ethernet Packet Loss Rate over the radio.
"
::= { status 8 }
The data that I am getting returned is 0e-5 or 0e-10 if there is no loss
but will be something like 2e-1 or 1e-2 if there is loss. Other values
are possible as well especially for packet loss.
The value that is returned looks to me like it is string format. Can
any of you think of a way to alert me if this value says I'm losing
packets? I understand if it were a numerical value I could create a
range but I am not sure how to handle the range of string values.
