The, "...very cool 3rd party RAS accounting tool" he might be refering to is included in the Windows 2000 (and 2003) Server Resource Kit. The name of the tool is: RASSrvmon.exe and is not included with the usual resource kit tools - only in the server version of RK, though it is mentioned in the usual W2k Resource Kit documentation.
It produces three files by default, UserDetails, UserList, and WebStatus which can all be set to be updated automatically. The WebStatus file is formatted to be posted somewhere so anyone can get a RAS server status. It really is a cool tool.
The tool is vastly underrated by MS and can run on an XP or W2k machine to provide RAS status as well as statistics. It also has the ability to notice and send alerts if the RAS service isn't working and/or hasn't been getting any calls over a user-defined amount of time.
Incidently, someone at MS must have been taking a mental day off when writing the RASSrvmon Syntax guide. The tool is repeatedly referred to as, "RasSvrmon" but when looking at the actual RK files, the tool is actually named, "RASSrvmon.exe"
I spent a long time being just a typo away from success.

Hi Tim,
There are a few options;
1) SNMP (I have not SNMP for this myself, just quoting the number to use...)
.1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1.1.3.1.1.19.18
You can find microsoft and win2k mibs at http://somix.com to use the english
version;
.iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.microsoft.software.systems.os.winnt.performance.rAS-Total.rastotTotalConnections
2) Windows Performance Monitor
Perfmance Object: RAS Total
Counter: Total Connections
3) Windows 2000 Resource Kit
This has a very cool 3rd party RAS accounting tool called "True Access
Manager" (don't quote me on the name, I set it up about 4 years ago) which
was a cut down ISP billing app that extracts connection info based on RAS
Modem/VPN sessions, including max connections.
Have fun,
Richard

Does anyone know of a way to monitor the number of current connections
on an Microsoft server 2003 RRAS server. Is this possible via SNMP?
We are using an MS server for dialin access to our network and I want to
monitor how many of the modems are in use at anytime to see if I have
enough of them installed.
Tim
