On our CellPhone SMTP pages, we use the following

%n %v %u at %t
%a
%1
%d
%S
%(services::justup)

We put the location in the first description field.

This makes for an alert that looks similar to this:

WhatsUP(DOWN)SC
TL407A DOWN at
23:26:49
129.73.200.28
File App Svr
01/16/2005
Timed Out

This tells us that the message came from WhatsUP, it is a DOWN
notification,
from SCTL407A (Node Name) DOWN at Time, IP address, DescriptionField1,
Date, Service Type Down.

This fits nicely on a cell phone screen.

This example doesn't show it, but the %(services::justup) field is
useful when you have the node set to notify you as each service comes up
so that way you know what just came up, in the event of multiple service
failures.

As you already know, the default looks similar to this:

NT Server LDOA307A DiskSpaceUnder10%onD SVCDOWN at 13:21:31
Address: 136.157.244.107
Info 1: File Svr Common
Info 2:
Date: 08/23/2005
Status: Active and responding ( 0)
Svcs: DiskSpaceUnder10%onD
Notes:

Hope this helps. Dan . . .

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] Looking for alert variable suggestions

I am redoing my alerts (currently we still use the default settings).
I'm looking for any suggestions on what people have found works well for
them for email alerts and alpha pager alerts.

Thanks for any and all ideas.

David
