Hi, Just as an add-on to this question.
I'm running multiple maps One of the maps has only one "Container" pointing to another map that contains multiple hosts each running a single service When a service fails on a host, the container goes red and the alerting is performed by the container item. If I have multiple maps, and I use %e, I get all the down hosts spanning across all the maps. So now my question: Is there anyway to just have the container return alerts containing only the hosts contained in it's container map, and not across all maps monitored by WUG? This makes for an alert that looks similar to this: WhatsUP(DOWN)SC TL407A DOWN at 23:26:49 129.73.200.28 File App Svr 01/16/2005 Timed Out This tells us that the message came from WhatsUP, it is a DOWN notification, from SCTL407A (Node Name) DOWN at Time, IP address, DescriptionField1, Date, Service Type Down. This fits nicely on a cell phone screen. This example doesn't show it, but the %(services::justup) field is useful when you have the node set to notify you as each service comes up so that way you know what just came up, in the event of multiple service failures. As you already know, the default looks similar to this: NT Server LDOA307A DiskSpaceUnder10%onD SVCDOWN at 13:21:31 Address: 136.157.244.107 Info 1: File Svr Common Info 2: Date: 08/23/2005 Status: Active and responding ( 0) Svcs: DiskSpaceUnder10%onD Notes: Hope this helps. I'm looking for any suggestions on what people have found works well for them for email alerts and alpha pager alerts. Thanks for any and all ideas.
