We wrote a batch file that executes a sql statement. The output was piped to a text file. The active script monitor called the batch file passing it the name of the database as well as the DB user name and password, and then checked the resulting log file for a string. If it found the string then it was successful.

I am a programmer, but I can not find anything that states how this must
be written. Are there any examples on how to do this? Or does anyone
have one written that I could take a look at? I just need the _vbscript_
or Jscript for one and I am sure I can figure the rest out.
Thanks,

This monitor actually uses WMI to check SQL.
As for mySQL, nothing planned. It is possible that you (someone) could
script one using the active script monitor.

When we tried using it a while back we received all kinds of false
alarms, but I just turned it on a few minutes ago and it appears to be
working OK right now. I will let you know if it starts failing again.
Is there any tool like this for mySQL, maybe planned?
Also, what does this monitor really test?
Thanks,

Does no one monitor a SQL server? We have never got the MS SQL monitors
to work properly. Therefore I need something to just run a query and
check the results.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] SQL Script for MSSql and/or mySQL
Hello All,
Does anyone have a script that will allow me to us WhatsUp Pro 2006 to
do a query on both MSSQL and mySQL to determine if they are up and
running? We have done this using servers alive in the past and would
like to do that same thing using WhatsUp. Basically just want to run a
query and validate the response.
Anyone have anything they can contribute?
Thanks,
