But I don't understand why it is required to have type="text" in input.
The _valid_ default value to type according to the w3c is text, you don't have to specify it explicitly.

So IMHO if you want to check for type, you should also consider null as valid value.

i committed a change that the basic textfields and its basic subclasses always checks for the type
And that can be overridden by overriding  a method.
