Yes, it could be private. My thoughts were: as Eelco has mentioned the
default mapping provided by CharSetMap are probably good for 95% of
all cases. To mkae it protected means that subclasses of Page are able
to modifiy that mapping for the remaining 5%. On the other hand,
CharSetMap provides plenty of means to externally configure the map.
Thus no need for a subclass to do it. Yes, you right:  private is
probably better.
