just playing devil's advocate here...

one could argue that wicket shouldn't implement any of this and that
what is really needed is a better urlrewrite servlet filter.  the danger
in allowing wicket to take on this duty is that it arguably falls outside
the scope of the project.  there are so many things that we could
improve on... the question is where to draw the line...
