1) It is useful for debugging. 2) We try to avoid magic. Some tags get removed automatically, other don't?. Of course there are always explanations why it automatically gets removed, but we'll have to explain it again and again. Just my 2c note, the all or nothing approach is the cleanest and easiest to understand.
