You don't need to modify the HTML DTD/schema. Namespaces, and that is what they are for, allow you to specify your own (additional) namespace incl. the associated DTD/schema. E..g.

<html xmlns:xhtml="http:/...." xmlns:wicket="http://....."; >

you keep them completely separate and you may add as many namespaces
as you like.
