Maybe I am misunderstanding something... why can't you store the
properties in a class file but have the class file reload the property
values from disk every X seconds?

but if you use classes then those are stored staticaly and hotswap
cant handle that als, so then you could use the webapp reloading of
youre container but this is also not really the nicest way
i know java 6 will give us more support so i don't know if we really
give it a lot off time

Actually it is possible to use classes instead of property files for all
your key-value stuff with resourcebundles.
Take a look at this tech tip
http://java.sun.com/developer/JDCTechTips/2004/tt1214.html#1 and decide if
you think it is worth the effort.
Now I'm not sure of how the internals of wicket work but if they just use
resourcebundles it could work.
Also in java 6 you can have more control over the caching mechanism of
resourcebundles, but you probably don't want to wait until wicket has
progressed to java 6 ;)

That's an issue with Java resource bundles. Those classes have their
own - non overridable afaik - caching mechanism. Don't know how much
work/ whether it is desirable to replace resource bundles with our own
implementations.

now , all page templates (html file for WebPage) can be reloaded in
developement mode automatically.
but , it seems that property files (needed by Validator etc.) do not.
why and how ?
