This would really be great, I'll see if I can test it today

I've committed the changes to HEAD (after tagging the current
release). SimplePageTest and SimpleTableTest show how to use it.

The changes are only minor, thus existing code should not break, but
a) you never know and b) I've tested it with Label,
WebMarkupContainer, ListView, Panel and Border. Though it should cover
many applications, I haven't tested markup inheritance and
<wicket:header>. Provided we call it a first shot than I'm fine with
1.1 and minor additions/bug fixes later on.
To avoid misunderstandings, in order to re-render a component you must
call cycle.request(component); There is nothing like a URL which gets
analyzed and the response contains the rendered component only.

Certainly! How high do you deem the 'break risk' for this change? Big
enough to put it in 1.2. (the initial plan), or is it that robust that
we might put it in 1.1? The latter could help enormously in our
marketing push.

One of the reqs around for ajax was to be able to re-render on
component rather than page level. I've got a working draft for that on
my laptop which require minimal changes to wicket-core only and does
not modify wickets current api, except that it is extended by one
public (but not for user use) method. Is that of any interest for
someone?
