I wasn't sure, seeing the following, exactly what you meant by "start".

I don't know where the proposal is now, but given your comments re the
streams of development, my preference would be for
     trunk/               <- Common (site) development
     branches/
         WICKET_2_0/      <- 2.0 Development branch
         WICKET_1_2/      <- 1.2 Development branch
         WICKET_1_2_1/    <- 1.2.1. temporary release branch (delete
once released?)
         sandbox/
             whatever...
     tags/
         WICKET_1_2_0/    <- Marking 1.2[.0] release
         WICKET_1_2_1/    <- Marking 1.2.1 release (=
branches/WICKET_1_2_1/'HEAD')
         sandbox/
             as above...

Hmm - OK, if you're seeing that requirement, I guess...

Out of interest, though, what are the "release specifics". While I'm
not doing Wicket releases, with my own projects it's just the versions
in pom.xmls that I need to change, and there it's 1.N-SNAPSHOT -> 1.N
-> 1.N+1-SNAPSHOT, i.e. a progression not a rollback.
