I find word reference really useful to make sure I picked the right word - you can get both English synonyms and English definitions there. I also like to click back and forth in a bilingual dictionary to find the right term, which I then double-check in word reference. This is how I came up with "dispensable", BTW - I did the dictionary work. I'm a translator and do this kind of stuff for a living ;)
