Personally, I think it's a good thing to include the important links both in
the top and on the sidebar. I don't see the harm in it at all.

I've just started using Quartz full-time this week, since the new colors and
Navlinks launched. On the wikis I'm working on, I put the major navigation
links up at the top -- Recent changes, Random page, Categories, Help.

I was surprised to find that I use the top links much more than the sidebar
now. For whatever reason, I just naturally move the mouse up to the top now,
and it's been really helpful having Recent changes up there.

At the same time, just because that's my preference doesn't mean that it'll
be everybody's. Wiki users are used to having that stuff on a sidebar -- so
I'd hate to take it out, and leave them feeling stranded.

The search box and ads/spotlights form enough of a separation to make the
top links and the sidebar feel far apart. I don't think having some links
repeated between them makes any difference, and some links are so important
-- like Recent changes and Help -- that it's not a bad idea to put them in a
couple different places on the page.
