I would have to agree with Angela. I think these types of functions are
beautiful for the _very top_ level of wiki-hackers, but are far too complex
for the rest, including advanced wiki admins. They will probably never end
up Wikia-wide.

With that said, I am sure that if we had a particular use, for a particular
code extension, on a particular wiki... Wikia would work with us to try to
make it happen, as a one-off.

Something else that Angela didn't mention is that there is a great debate
going on as we speak on wikitech-l about changes to the core parser. Any
extensions which tie into or extend this functionality will likely be
deprecated or left broken afterward. I might suggest keeping an eye on those
threads and logging bugs/feature requests within the core MediaWiki product
so they can be thoroughly debated and ultimately easier to upgrade/maintain.

The major downside(s):

You don't have much control over what is implemented and what is ignored.
It often takes FAR longer to do than if you do it yourself.

Brion and Tim LOVE it when you bring a suggestion AND the corresponding code
to implement.
