Mark, if you  really  want  to  see how the WMF has 'attempted to  help  the
community', perhaps you  could read this entire bug from  start  to  finish,
take note that  a full 8 months further on very  little has actually
transpired.  A further community  effort - an NPP survey launched in  fact  by 
some of those above who were vehemently dissatisfied by  the result of this
bug, but  with  the best  of intentions, was also  met by a largely 
unexplained exclusion of the volunteer  research team  from its evaluation -
and that  now only  very  recently, the Article Creation Flow and NPP Triage 
projects have been relaunched by  the WMF ostensibly  as 'new' projects. The
end effect has been, instead of looking  for ways to  enhance new-user
retentions, the community  vs. WMF  gap  has in  fact  widened, and Wikipedia
has lost  the collaboration of dedicated  users and admins - especially  those
experienced in  NPP matters - some of whom may even  have retired or
semi-retired from  Wikipedia as a result.
