As we don't talk about en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foo here we run in circles. Again,
see comment 3 for an example, that long donation URLs are needed, and that
linking to the generic landing page isn't appropriate.

"Cost" is unclear to me, if WMF controls the service.

I fail to understand the "cost".
People are still free to use the long URLs in blog posts.
