This is a non-issue in the Android stock nor Chrome's browser. I forgot to
state that this seems to be only an issue in Firefox for Android and on Firefox
on desktop (i.e, as soon as you tap to focus the search box, it looks like the
focus is lost; something on-tap is revoking focus (thus dismissing the
keyboard, and focus is lost on desktop)).

To reiterate with some easier steps to reproduce on desktop; in Firefox visit:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/?useformat=mobile, and focus the input search box -
as soon as you focus, the focus is lost and the URL becomes
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/?useformat=mobile#mw-mf-search
