Doesn’t work in MSIE 6. Sadly, millions use it and I think we still intend to
support it. See http://www.ie6countdown.com/

Is there any official or community statement on which browsers we do support?

No. I think the point is to make wikis accessible to people who can’t or won’t
install software on their machines. This means tens of millions who rely on
library or work PCs, or the latest mobile devices, or almost anything in
between. Not only techies need to read their own language.

That said, it would be nice if the font spec only applied to the necessary
language names, whichever those may be.
