As I quickly realized, and confirmed at the Autonym website, the majority of
Latin glyphs were extracted form FreeSans, possibly the worst-rendering (at
leats on Windows) open source font available. FreeSans (as well as the other
UCS/GNU FreeFonts) lack *any* type of hinting, on which Windows relies for
proper font rendering. We could blame Windows, but that will not solve
anything.

Autonym should find a better source for its Latin glyphs, preferably Nimbus
Sans L (on which FreeSans is based!), which include at least some basic
hinting.
