Going back to where this was originally lodged at
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1542#c4

As en effective tool to _prevent_ abuse the tool itself, logging and the IP
addresses give the value for the prevention.

Without the IP address, the modification the log should be considered a
reflective tool that allows you to assess the validity of the use of the tool.
