It's actually fairly well proven that human eyes endure greater strain when the
contrast is perfect (e.g., #000 on #fff).  There's links and documentation
someplace on mw.org; I can try to find it later.

We're not in the business of accounting for badly-configured, worn-out, or
broken monitors.  We just aren't.  In the year 2014, the use of CRTs is in
rapid decline; in fact, I'm not sure when I last saw one in use - not even in
poorer parts of the world.

Accordingly, I don't think we need to spend a lot of time hashing over this and
we should just move on.
