That thread is an implementation proposal by Aryeh, who, unlike pretty much everyone else commenting on this bug (myself included), is actually gonna start implementing it; he suggested he might start today. This bug already has 173 comments, and posting more long comments about hypothetical implementations while not replying to the implementation plan of the one person actually being serious about getting this done is not useful and might just push this bug to 200 comments without getting anywhere.
