Summary: Edit box text appears to jump back and forth whilst
There is a problem with the edit box on Commmons and en.wikipedia - when you
are typing at the bottom of a page already full of text, each keypress causes
the text you are typing, and the content of the whole edit box, to jump back
approximately 10 lines, and immediately return to the cursor on the next
This causes extreme flicker, and as a result, I personally am unable to look at
the monitor whilst typing in the edit box. I am a photosensitive epileptic, and
the resulting flicker from typing at well in excess of 160 words per minute
causes my head to ache, and my eyes to become sore. I have to look away.
I have managed to capture a (rather poor quality) ogg video showing the error
(albeit slower, since I had to keep the frame rate down) occurring in the edit
box at commons.wikimedia.org. The video is uploaded on commons here:
Each flicker you see is probably about 1 in every 10 or 15 keystrokes. Imagine
it happening on *every* keystroke and you will get an idea of the problem.
I will also refer you to the Village Pump at commons, where someone has posted
a message stating that they are also suffering with this issue. I told them
what was happening to me, and I'd pass it to you.
The note is here:
Thanks for sorting this. I'm getting round it for now by editing externally in
KATE, and copypasting back to wiki until it's sorted.
