If you really insist of animations, please, please make it very fast (0.2 seconds or less). When I click a link or button I don't want my computer to react like "I'm not sure what to do with your click, let me think about for a moment". This feels like working on a 1980s computer. When I click my computer knows what to do in a few nanoseconds. So do it!
