Open question is what to do with lexemes. We can go one of these roads:

  • Create separate extension for Lexemes too, and migrate in parallel
  • Migrate Wikibase first, and keep Lexeme code as is, and migrate later
  • Make Lexeme code use WikibaseCirrusSearch classes instead of Wikibase ones, and then migrate based on that

The difference is that migration at once would probably be more complicated and take more time (we need to release 2 new extensions at once, instead of one, and duplicate all the switches, etc.), but is cleaner. Migration by parts could clean up Wikibase faster, meaning less time where we essentially have to maintain two codebases (or are reluctant to accept search patches, likely both).

@Lydia_Pintscher @WMDE-leszek would be glad to hear your input on this and on the migration plan above.
