I think there is a lot of work to be done, but I agree to @Lydia_Pintscher that adding a datatype formula, which is bascially a string displayed by the Math extension is not a three month project. Displaying Math is simple just add math tags to the wikitext output and you are done. For HTML output you can use MathRenderer::renderMath($tex) to the renderd math back.
