I thought something like that. So, that means that the "trigger" could be a casual page view, when the links tables are updated wrong way?
I would point to one thing which is particulary interesting: if I remember correctly, when this error occurs, every Wikidata entry on the page is affected and every time the same Lua error message is displayed. That's why i think that the actual bug may not be hidden in Lua scripts, but rather somewhere in parsing/caching process.
