actually ... it looks like adding a category page to your watchlist only notifies you when the text of the Category page itself has changed, not if a new page has been added to the category :-(
I also tried transcluding a category page into another page which I then wrapped inside the <startfeed/><endfeed/> tags but again just the text of the page comes through and not the pages in the categories themselves. oh well.. might require some php then I guess. The http://tools.wikimedia.de/~magnus/catfood.php script looks like what we need, but I've not looked (or am qualified to) at the code. brent.
