Hi,

I'd have to concur with Option 2, especially if you factor in Wayne's dream
that each educational institution nominate 1-2 people per institution to work
on WikiEducator. This would additionally provide a 'safe' testing environment
for the educational institutions themselves.

Subject: [WikiEducator] Re: An alternative hosting path

I'd like to explore option 2 as well and would be willing to offer up some time
to support the maintenance of a MediaWiki ... i've done a few before so am
pretty well versed in the basics of installing extensions, etc. I'd also like
to propose that if possible given the experimental and innovative approach of
our community towards exploring the potential of the platform that we run a
kind of 'sandboxed' wiki as well to play around with and explore extensions,
bots, etc on before throwing them on the live WikiEd platform. So perhaps 2
servers? :-)

brent.

1) COL goes to tender with for an external hosting company to provide

the services we require.
2) We look for a community-based solution where volunteers assist with
maintenance and installation of the WE servers (COL will cover the
costs of leasing the servers and we can explore creative solutions to

assist with some of the costs.)

My personal preference is for option 2 -- I'm sure that there are many
education institutions that have resident expertise that can assist in
this regard. Community projects are more successful when they are

"owned" and run by the community.

Cheers
Wayne
