Good idea about a front page announcement. COL and the community will be doing everything we can to ensure that there are no disruptions to the service. Under the circumstances -- we cannot provide a 100% guarantee for uptime.
There is a small risk (albeit a small one) that our server can go down. If for example, the CPU chip burns out -- it will take us a few days to get back up and running. I'll check with Erik if its feasible to make a regular data dump of the database over and above our daily backup -- and figure out how best to make this available for folk to download in the unfortunate event of hardware failure. You could then have an alternative strategy in place in the event that something goes wrong on this end. I agree -- it would be a bummer if the server burns out. Lets figure out the best way to deal with your needs.
