Hi,
I have been looking for partners for collaborative learning and
instruction since the mid 90s. I think one of the issues that we
should pay more attention to is the need and/or ability to
collaborate. I agree with the following statement by George Siemens:

Instructors/teachers/trainers are typically "lone stars" - they're
used to having control of their course, classroom, curriculum.
Elearning is a collaborative process that involves many specialized
skills (graphic design, web design, information architecture,
instructional design, etc.). The subject matter expert is only part of
the whole equation. This is a difficult mindset for instructors to
overcome...some resistance to elearning may be rooted in feeling a
sense of fear over losing control of course content and final decision
making. Collaboration is a great concept...jas long as it doesn't
impact what an instructor does each day...:)

I suggest we work on changing teachers' mind sets and helping them see
her value of collaborating and sharing before worrying about the ease
of use.

I use wikispaces, wepaint, pdwiki, blogs of every kind (too many to
mention), twitter, powence, delicious, technorati, snapvine, wiziq,
learnhub, facebook, nings (a few), and a many others I lost count of.
I keep meeting the same people who are constantly moving on once a new
gadget appears. Many teachers who want to collaborate are lost in
cyberspace. We need to throw them a nut. I would like to offer free
professional development programs that would appeal to teachers. Right
now, there are many in service PD programs that are very expensive for
the individual teacher, schools, districts, nations etc., but that do
not seem to capture the hearts of teachers.

Anyone interested in collaborating with me???

Warm wishes,
Nellie Deutsch
