Good points -- Wiki communities are also based on trust and respect. Trust evolves over time when members know the "kinds" of edits that are appropriate. This is especially true in the case of templates. Templates replicate across many pages and tweaking layout can have disastrous effects on pages which call the template.
Our community has been very good at making the right judgement calls -- and that's encouraging. Most WikiEducators are comfortable with jumping in and fixing typos and adding value to the text. With more substantive changes -- I've noticed that WikiEducators first talk about this on the relevant talk pages. All good of course!
