Hi all,

in consideration of the never ending spiral of violence and counter
violence on our planet I would like to see WikiEducator taking up
responsibility.
As educator by profession and threefold father I have leaned that
violent behavior often arises from ignorance of non-violent strategies
to reach ones aims. We could show our children, our students and our
colleagues how to become aware of their own true needs and communicate
them in an authentic way, and to be open to hear the needs of the
other. And how to bargain until a mutual accordance is reached.

I want to propose to the WikiEducator community to value highly
projects related to non-violent communication and behavior.
I can warmly recommend to read Marshall B Rosenberg web page for this:
www.cnvc.org

And, as behavior is only at the top of the iceberg, we could even go
deeper and look for the factors of an education for peace in general.

“The world is in agony.” With these painful words begins the
“Declaration Toward a Global Ethic” by the “Parliament of the Worlds
Religions” of Sept. 4, 1993. http://www.weltethos.org/pdf_decl/Decl_english.pdf

The declaration, worked out by thousands of deputies of all religions,
continues:
“Time and again we see leaders and members of religions incite
aggression, fanaticism, hate, and xenophobia – even inspire and
legitimize violent and bloody conflicts.
Religion often is misused for purely power-political goals, including
war. We are filled
with disgust.” (p. 4)

It comes up with 4 simple basic guidelines for a global ethic:

1. non-violence and respect for life
2. solidarity and a just economic order
3. tolerance and a life of truthfulness
4. equal rights and partnership between men and women

What if we here in WikiEd worked out a wiki ethic in this spirit?
We then could not only exclude authors that go against it, but much
better, give attention to projects that try to implement these values.

Best regards from cold and snowy Bavaria,

Günther
