Thanks nadia,

That gave me the drection I needed.
The site was looking for was
http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/Welcome_to_Citizendium
and Larry Sanger was the name of the co-founder of wikipedia I was
looking for.

It's the comparison between an open approach = wikipedia, and the more
structured approach = citizendium, I'm making. Wikieducator is
interesting in that it's now trying to come up with a way to be
sustainable (profitable). I'm also having a nice discussion with
Leigh, who, if you read his blog, seems to have many of the same ideas
I have.

The one thing which most people in the .edu space seem to leave out of
this equation is the real time networking. Skype, as the main player
in getting the telcos to reduce their costs, has just done away with
their Skypecast service. (audio/video conferencing), so we know that
we are getting close to finding a directory which brings the web stuff
(in the .edu space it appears to lean to using a wiki, moodle or/and
blog) and the real time networks together. i.e. if you read something
you're trying to understand, you normally want to talk to the person
or group who provided it. The only institution I've seen attempting to
do this is the open uni in the UK, who developed
http://technologies.kmi.open.ac.uk/msg/

Just going through the strategy for wikieducator, Wayne's trying to
find ways to make things sustainable, and encourage the value adders.
So let's not just limit things to just the web stuff. The most
important thing, and the thing which is going to make the profit, or
provide the cost savings for institutions, is getting the asynchronous
networks to align with the real time ones.

Thanks again, simon
