Hi Anil,

Great post and couldn't agree more :-). This is why the OER Foundation will
be launching WikiResearcher.org in the near future.

There is a growing knowledge base of OER research output as researchers
begin studying the OER phenomenon. See for example, IRRODL which recently
published a special issue on Opennes and the future of higher education (
http://www.irrodl.org/index.php/irrodl/issue/view/38 ) . This is a GOOD
example because this peer reviewed journal published by Athabasca University
Press is licensed under an open content license :-). Moreover, to the best
of my knowledge AU Press is the first university press in the world
dedicated entirely to open access publishing.

Athabasca University is a founding member of the OER Foundation -- see press
release:

http://www2.athabascau.ca/aboutau/news/news_item.php?new&id=9

This is a significant partnership for the OER Foundation and WikiEducator.
Working with leaders in openness, we will be able to foster and encourage
and support open research in parallel with open education.

There are also other journals like Open Learning who have published special
issues on OER. (See:
http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/title?content=g909097565?db=all ) -- While
the publisher provided no-cost access to this special issue in recognition
of the subject, sadly the journal was published under all rights reserved
:-), This is disappointing considering that the authors and/or publisher did
not lead by example requesting that this issue should have been licensed
using an open license. I serve on the editorial board of Open Learning and
while I advocated for an open content license for this issue -- my requests
were not well received :-(. Hence another motivation why I am keen to
support the launch of WikiReasearcher.org .

This is a great opportunity for our community to lead the way in using the
wiki model for open research! Still lots of work, planning and lots to think
about, but the OER Foundation is committed to contribute to the evolution of
open research futures. We will live up to our ethos of Open Philanthropy.

We have made a start -- all our statistical data is published openly -- so
for example, you can visit our site statistics here:

http://wikieducator.org/stats/reports/TablesWikipediaEN.htm

It would be great to see a research community converge and collaborate on
OER research that will help the WikiEducator family get better at what we
do. Once we have a critical mass of interested wiki researchers to take this
forward -- we'll install a dedicated wiki for WikiResearcher.org :-)

Thoughts, ideas and suggestions are well received? Do we have experienced
researchers in our community who would be willing to play a leadership role
in taking these ideas forward?

Let the open research begin!

Cheers
Wayne
