Oh for goodness sake!!! (One of my mother's favorite expressions) what a silly name...I have enough trouble trying to explain the OER concept to folks with adding a new mouthful!   I vote that we continue to use OER in the ways we have been using it...I suppose UNESCO will still work with us even if we don't conform.  I had better stop sputtering...since this is a message heard around the world.  J.

Subject: Re: [WikiEducator] Important: Unesco Replaces OER Acronym

Hi Everyone,

I see - sounds like a great bid to create even more confusion after all of the energy devoted to building brand and awareness around OERs.

Let's see - how about a Facebook campaign to get UNESCO to change their name to:

"United Nations of the Developing and Developed World supporting Freely/Not So Freely and Open / Not So Open Educational, Scientific and Technical, Cultural, Artistic and Media Organization / Entity.

That's a new mouthful for everyone to chew on.

But hey - UNESCO as an acronym stands alone - just like OER.

Thank You Steve for the information.
OER's to “FOERSTER”
“Open Educational Resources”, or OERs.

Resources Supporting Training, Education, and Research”.
The change will include resources related to training and research.
Warm wishes
