Good point Don,

I think the concepts of "evolution" and "revolution" are two sides of the
same coin. In strategic planning, managing these tensions is the art of
knowing which of the approaches is most appropriate for the task at hand.

For those involved in open learning, the OERu is the next logical step in
the evolution of open education. After all, the examination only model was
pioneered by the University of London 150 years ago! With open licensing
and social media -- we will do a better job. We should also remember that a
number of small incremental changes add up to radical transformation in the
long run ;-).

The strength of the OERu network lies in the collective organisational
experience in open distance learning (many of our anchor partners are ODL
institutions.) We will build "Open Education 2.0" drawing on this
collective distance learning experience.

For traditional universities -- the OERu may appear to be a revolutionary
concept. That's fine, we will share our knowledge and experiences openly so
that in time they can join us as well.

The strategic mission of the OER Foundation is to help all organisations to
integrate OER and open education practices into their mainstream
activities.

We've made an excellent start. Watch this space ....
