Dear Dr. Wayne,
Definitely wiki history is a powerful tool. One final doubt: suppose abcd institution donate a content and we place a header template with the title lines 'content developed by abc institution'. Up to which version in the history this title line can be used? Perhaps it was the starting point of this discussion. My understanding is that the title would require modification - like 'Source: content developed by abc institution' etc- immediately after the first edit that changes the original content. This title line can be linked to the static page of the source or the exact original version from the wiki history after a thorough verification of the content. Another option would be to use this kind of a convenient title line from the very beginning. This is applicable in the case of our open pages on council agenda, resolution/voting etc. When we say the minutes of the WE council held on dd-mm-yyyy, the link should take the site visitors to the originally approved version. Therefore here also we have to ensure that we are linking only the correct version from the history. In my view, this practise itself would frame a simple policy on how to maintain original/approved pages/documents. P.S Kindly note that my suggestion as seen in the first message was not to freeze anything from editing, but to intimate users (through a proper template) that something is an approved document to avoid direct editing and to discuss the changes first . I think I have mistaken the page as an initiative to have a wiki version of the original document for future references :) -- Warm regards Anil http://www.wikieducator.org/User:Anil_Prasad http://www.apletters.blogspot.com On Sun, Dec 4, 2011 at 3:24 AM, Wayne Mackintosh <[email protected] > wrote: > Hi Anil > > I agree, the risks of enclosure or sites which are discontinued due to > lack of funding is an issure for both OER and open access materials.
