Subject: [WikiEducator] Important milestone to achieve formal
accreditation for OER courses -- Design blueprints posted for comment

The OER university <http://wikieducator.org/OER_university/Home>  (OERu)
network compromising accredited universities, colleges and polytechnics
aims to provide free learning opportunities for all students worldwide
using courses based solely on OER with pathways for these learners to
acquire formal academic credit towards credible credentials.

The OERu anchor partners
<http://wikieducator.org/OER_university/2011.11_Founding_OERTen_anchor_p
artner_statements> have shortlisted 8 university / college courses to
be developed as prototypes to be offered in the 2nd half of 2012:

*       College Composition (1st year-level course)
* Art Appreciation and Techniques (1st year-level course and remix
of the Saylor Foundation / Washington State Open Course Library course)
* Regional relations in Asia and the Pacific (1st year-level
course)
*       A Mathematical Journey (1st year-level course)
* General and Applied Psychology (1st year-level course and remix
of the Saylor Foundation Introduction to Psychology Course)
* Critical Reasoning (2nd year-level course in Philosophy)
*       Why Sustainable Practice (1st year-level course)
* Introduction to Management (1st year-level course and registered
with the New Zealand Quality Authority towards a national
qualification.)

These courses will carry credit towards a Bachelor of General Studies --
the inaugural credential selected at the OERu 2011.11 meeting
<http://wikieducator.org/OER_university/2011.11_OERu_Meeting_summary>
of founding anchor partners. The OERu network will be able to formerly
accredit OER learning in Africa, Asia, Oceania and North America.

The OER Foundation <http://wikieducator.org/OERF> uses open source
development approaches and we subscribe to radical transparency and open
governance. We conduct all business openly. We release early and
frequently.

The first drafts of the design blueprints for the prototype have been
posted for feedback and improvement. You can help us to provide high
quality OER courses to achieve free learning for all students by helping
us improve the design and delivery model for these courses. You will
find links to the respective blueprints under the announcement section
on the prototype portal page
<http://wikieducator.org/OER_university/Planning/OERu_2012_Prototype>
and we welcome feedback from the OER community. Please post your
feedback on the corresponding "Discussion tab" in the wiki.

These prototype courses will help us to refine the delivery model for
the OERu network preparing for our formal launch in 2013.

All accredited post-secondary institutions are free to join the network.
See: 5 Things you should know about the OER university network plan
<http://wikieducator.org/images/7/7d/OERu.pdf>  .

The OERu is not theoretical speculation -- we are implementing the
model.
