Hi Richard, This year, for the first time, WMAU has been able to join the Wikimedia Foundation's annual fundraising drive (see http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fundraising_2010 for more info) - in practice this means signing an agreement with the foundation, in return for which all potential donor's who 'geo-locate' to Australia are invited to donate 50% to WMF in San Fran. and 50% to WMAU - in practice this means that an amount is deposited into a Paypal account held on behalf of WMAU, and 50% is remitted back to the foundation - that's why you have to halve the Cumulative total at http://wikimedia.org.au/wiki/Special:FundraiserStatistics to get the accurate figure.
As you may have seen on the members only mailing list, Craig, our treasurer, has indicated that the committee intends to disburse the vast majority of these rather phenomenal funds in various programs throughout this year - if you or anyone else has any ideas about chapter activities that could benefit from financial support, then now is a fantastic time to make sure you're signed up as a Chapter member, and share them! - There are an awful lot of possibilities now :-) best, Peter, PM.
